Introduction:

  • The Umbrella term AYUSH is the acronym for Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy. At present in a global resurgence of demand for natural medicine has given a significant fillip to the development of Indian medicine. This system is moving ahead with use of latest technological & scientific developments. AYUSH system of medicine have age-old acceptance among various communities in India and played an important role in prevention and mitigation of disease. Among the 5 (Five) systems of AYUSH, Ayurveda, Homoeopathy and Yoga are equally practiced throughout Tripura both at Govt. and non Govt. levels. Remaining others might have not developed much in this State. In addition some folk medicines are practiced by local tribes in rural areas which could not be well documented.
  • Department of Indian Systems of Medicine and Homoeopathy (ISM&H) was created in March,1995 and re-named as Department of Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy (AYUSH) in November, 2003 with a view to providing focused attention to development of Education & Research in Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy systems.
  • Now, Ministry of AYUSH has been formed on 9th November 2014 & GoI have launched National AYUSH Mission to ensure the optimal development and propagation of AYUSH systems of health care.
  • In the State of Tripura, keeping in view the vision & objective of National AYUSH Mission (NAM) & guidelines received from the Ministry of AYUSH, the society called, State AYUSH Mission, Tripura (SAMT) has been formed on 17th September 2015.

    Key Achievements:

  • Diploma in Pharmacy Course Ayurveda & Homeopathy has been started at Regional Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences & Technology (RIPSAT), Agartala.
  • One Regional Research Institute of Ayurveda under CCRAS and one Regional Research Institute of Homoeopathy under CCRH has been established and started at Agartala & Khumlung (TTAADC area) respectively.
  • Different capacity building training has been provided to Medico staff of AYUSH (like, CME on Homoeopathy, Hands-on training on Panchakamrma, Workshop) along with Training on General Wellness and preventive Health Care through Ayurveda & Yoga.
  • For smooth functioning of OPD/IPD services in the AYUSH facilities different equipments have been distributed to the districts like, B.P machine, Stethoscope, Adult weight machine, Baby weight machine, torch, tongue depressor etc.
  • To implement Yoga wellness programme, activities have been taken-up with the Youth Affairs & Sports Department of Tripura. The programme will be started shortly from their end. Financial support has been provided.
  • One Ksharsutra clinic has been inaugurated in the State Ayurvedic Hospital, Agartala in collaboration with IGM Hospital to treat fistula & other anorectal diseases.
  • Public Health Outreach activity on AYUSH has been conducted at District level.
